Didn't go. I don't think there was a girl who would have gone with me anyhow.

I didn't go to my prom because I'm crazy and idealistic and was still holding on to the idea that the man of my dream was real and "out there somewhere".

I went to mines. I didn't have a date but a girl was willing to slow dance with me.

She wasn't the best looking girl in the world but I had a strong infatuation with her after the dance. Maybe because that's my first time embracing a girl like that, wrapping my arms around her and vice versa.

Nope.

My mom yelled at me while she was crying and told me I only thought about myself.

CRAZY.

I went. It was the 1980's. We all watched the "John Hughes" films in the theaters. What we learned from John Hughes as teenagers in the 1980's about the Prom:

*You have to go to the Prom. Okay, you don't 'have' to go, but you should go to "stick it" to and prove to all the "popular" classmates that they didn't beat you in this. They want you to stay home and soak your pillow with tears. They want you to be at home playing Atari that night. Don't let "them" do this to you. Even if you "hated" high school (which I did) you should go to the Prom, and if IF it really is THAT bad for you...........walk in dressed up, turn around and leave.

Ughhhhh...such those now long ago times.

I went. I went stag. I didn't have a date (even though I asked NINE girls, three of which DID not even go to my high school). I actually had an "okay" time. Classmates WERE surprised I showed up. I stayed until the "court" was announced and left. Prom 1989. So long ago now!

My peers were overall polite to me that night. My parents were very "pleased" that I went, even without a date.

Do they even HAVE proms in Poland? I thought it was exclusively anglosphere tradition. But what do I know?

There is an equivalent of prom near the end of high school. Naturally I didn't go.
