I was going through the hell of a crush over Felicity, a coursemate . She seems really interested because she always tries to sit next to me in classes, tries making eye contact and, according to my mate, glances at me frequently when I can't see her. I had a kind of good chat with her once but I could not overcome my LSness to try to take things further. I recently found out that she is actually in a long distance relationship with some guy. This seems to have cooled me off pretty well. I would not get involved with a taken chick and now I feel that I think less of her as a person . I'm on spring break right now and haven't seen her for a while. I hope that seeing her again won't reignite my oneitis.

Really its better to at least try, then at least you'll know for shure and you can move on, and who knows it might work.

There's an ironic duality to the meaning of that, too. You 'miss' them in the sense of regret. 10 years from now you'll always be wondering "what if". Don't do that to yourself, trust me.

At school once when I was about 17 or 18, a French exchange student came over for a short while. She was simply stunning. She sort of made friends with a girl that my best friend knew well, so I got to see her sometimes. I never did anything or said anything, even on the last day before she left England. :\ I suppose I feel I just didn't have a chance compared to all the other guys that I presumed *had* been vying for her attention. Also I hate being part of the mass following and competing in this way. She also wore a tshirt on that last day that said "Je ne sui pas un cadeaux," and I suppose it put me off too. Weird, I can't remember her name now. :\ I'm more sad about that.

Exactly, i fell in love with a girl once, developped oneitis one could say, but i tried several times to make it work till the very end of school (she was in my class)but it never worked. I still feel angry about it sometimes but its better to feel that then to regret and ask yourself "what if". I know i did what i could and that things didn't work wasn't my fault but hers.

what exactly do people mean by "giving up" on a oneitis? giving up hope of a relationship, or giving up thinking about her? I understand why it's unhealthy to delude yourself into believing you may somehow end up with someone just because you think about them so much, but is it unhealthy just to think about someone, to wonder what she's doing, to talk to her when you can, and to write her name in secret places?

Well for me give up means to try as hard as i can to quit thinking about said person completly. Why completly. Cause im obbsessed. Healthy thoughts turn to unhealthy ones at a rapid rate. its kinda how they say alcholics cant stop at one, because they dont know how to. well i dont know how to stop at a healthy thought. its 0 or 10 for me.

when I'm driving in my car I imagine a scenario in which She's sitting next to me, touching my arm as She talks to me, leaning Her head on my shoulder and smiling... I imagine the comments She would make on the music on the radio, or the scenery outside... the plans we're making: "Oh, what do you want to do today?" "No, what do YOU want to do today?" (both of us giggle).

Even if I lose some of my other fantasies, I couldn't get rid of this one. I commute 25 minutes to work and I can't imagine what else I would do while I was driving.

The only real remedy that works to forget a oneitis, in my experience at least, is physical separation. My last oneitis was in high school when I was around 18-19 years old. She went to study in another place than me and I haven't seen her since, except at my brother's graduation.

The fact that I never saw her again caused the feelings to slowly fade away. Of course I periodically checked her facebook, but even that I'm doing less and less. I don't have real feelings for her anymore (doesn't mean I would say no to a mindblowing sex session, but that's probably only going to happen if I were the last man on Earth )

You can't really 'give up'. They stay on your mind, sometimes for a long time. The pain does eventually go away, sometimes. But the person is still there in your mind somewhere. Even though the feelings have died for some of my past oneitii, i still think about what they're up to, from time to time.

Oneitis is the worst thing in the world.
