Your Brain On (Internet) Porn

http://yourbrainonporn.com/

I believe this is why so many younger men are having difficulties having sex with women these days.

Note that this site deals with Internet porn only, not old-school pornography or pornographic films.

It also fits in nicely with my long held conviction that low brain Dopamine levels wreak havoc with people
dealing with social anxiety and depression, as well as possibly having an effect on love-shyness too.

I believe it.

That's why I think the time period when I was semi-successful in DSR coincides with the time period when I was a pack-a-day cigarette smoker.

Nicotine is known to interact with dopamine receptors and imitate the action of dopamine quite well. I was quite a bit more social and less nervous when I smoked, and I don't believe the calming effect was solely due to nicotine alleviating its own withdrawal symptoms.

It would be a great drug for social anxiety and maybe even love-shyness if not for those troubling side effects of lung cancer, emphysema, COPD, heart attack, strokes, and death.

I've fought pornography addiction for quite some time now. I can't go more than 4 or 5 days without falling off the wagon, relapsing makes me feel lower than low. Mind you I'm not passing judgement onto those who do watch.

4 or 5 days is pretty good going :check:

if you were to constantly go with 4 days gaps inbetween viewings, you might recover over time.

Thanks! :)

I started getting really disturbed when I would watch porn just for the sake of it, no "stimulation" at all. Also no longer feeling an attraction to real women and seeking out harder and harder genres.

yeah, within the last 6months i've been seeking more novelty. more variance. different ways to achieve the edge there used to be but has become blunt. that's when you know theres an issue. it's the equivalent of the coke addict moving onto heroin.

Exactly, I've been "chasing the dragon" with porn since I think I was an early teen. Nothing could match the "high" from those first few times, so the harder, more nasty stuff starts to slowly creep in. You start becoming disassociated from reality, watching stuff that under normal circumstance, would be a major turn-off or make you sick.

It was thrilling initially to get the contraband porn, now I just don't care much for it anymore at all, prefer to fawn over normal girls.

Even the mildest intimate scenes in movies make me feel kind of uneasy so watching porn is out of the question. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise- I'll never be addicted to porn :sunglasses: ...

Yeah, smoking tobacco was damned hard for me to quit and I would smoke two packs a day, sometimes. But I was more socialable, and the only current approved medication for depression, Bupropion, that effects dopamine is a postive manner and that helped me back to socialization for a number of years, before my bout of IBS. Just lucky it went away for me.

I can no longer use this A/D as I develop Gastric Reflux in a matter of hours. It doesn't surprise me that Bupropion is being used to help people quit smoking analog cigarettes at all with the Dopamine enhancing properties of this medication.

I have been vaping e-cigs nicotine cigarettes these last four months, and I have to say that nicotine by itself definitely seems to have helped me to control my oneitis condition as well as having little need to have a relationship anymore.

My mood has been better, even though nicotine, like tobacco, lowers my sex drive somewhat which is pretty nice these days. I thought it would raise my blood pressure, but it's still a nice 107/60 which is normal for me and my blood-lines.

The downside to vaping is that since there is no harsh smoke, and I like the coffee flavor, it's easy to imbibe in more nicotine then a cigarette so I lowered the amount down to half strength.

I also noticed that with no carbon monoxide and tar like a smoke, that nicotine alone seems to act as a cognitive enhancing substance.

107 seems quite low. I think the healthy average is around 120/70 or so? well, better to be low than high.

I can go months without porn, but a few days without "spanking the monkey" that shit is hard to do. Talk about having sex related dreams and boners, two days without that habit will put Viagra/Cialis out of business in my universe.

I had to go without for a week once when I had a terrible case of the flu. Let's just say I made up for lost time in a few days. It takes a lot of mental power to fight back that urge. Personally, I see no reward for holding out.
