I love, love, love (...) Little Miss Sunshine. The characters are so endearing, the teenager you see in the scene with Steve Carrell is so touching. This movie moved me and made me laugh so hard, it's really a beautiful one.

Liked V for Vendetta as well, kind of scary in its own way.

Trainspotting

Seppuku

Favorite Horror Film

This is actually my favorite Bogie flick, the speech about gold made by the old timer' is IMO, better than Douglas' greed speech in Wall street. Awesome film! :coolbeans:

Super-edit time: Animated film allowed?

Char's Counterattack:

Iria Zeiram the Animation:

And the obligitory Akira video:

I enjoy a range of movies, both old and new.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Anything with Bogart is awesome, but especially this.

Casablanca

Blade Runner

The Matrix

Taxi Driver

Apocalypse Now

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Dirty Harry

I own all of these, and countless other great movies. I have barely touched the top of the iceberg. I can think of loads more.

Great Fucking List! All of those movies are masterpieces. The only movie I didn't see of you list was The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. I will not repeat movies that have already been posted.

I always had a soft heart for B-movies made by great directors that's the reason I love Spielberg and Hitchcock so much:

Jaws:

Raiders of the Lost Ark:

Jurassic Park:

North by Northwest:

Psycho:

I also have always been a fan of Kubrick:

Full Metal Jacket:

Shinning:

2001 a Space Odyssey:

Scott and Cameron were masters of sci-fi in the beginning of their carers:

Alien:

Aliens:

I could go on and on but I will stop for now.

Great action movie, with young actress Natalie Portman and Français, Jean Reno !!

I didn't know that, I thought it was the original title but this one makes sense as well. I think it's Nathalie Portman's first massive appearance in a movie and she's so cute in it, and very talented for such a young age.

I love Jean Reno but he sometimes "wastes" his talent I think, he plays in some lame stuff sometimes, you don't get why (The Da Vinci Code, Inside Ring/Le Premier Cercle...). But overall I think this man's one of the best French actors there's ever been. His voice is really a landmark for us, anyone could tell you right away "it's him".

Gone with the Wind is one of my favourite movies too. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh are amazing in it, the photography's gorgeous and even though they made changes from the book, it's really one of the best "unconventional" love stories for me.

Am I the only one who didn't like Gone With the Wind, Scarlet O'Hara was one of the greatest villains of all movie history and all the women I know look up to her WTF?!?! If there was any good scene in that movie it was the last scene:

Bitch got served!

I don't look up to her, I said I loved the movie and the book. The last scene is grandiose I think. But the success of this story goes way beyond O'Hara being "a bitch" or a "villain". The "ironic" thing about her is that she does everything she can to secure her and her family's safety and survival and succeeds in it, but fails miserably at identifying what she really wants and needs in terms of love.

EDIT: If some women can look up to her, I think it's only regarding her strength and determination, and truth be told, the author managed to make her both irritating and admirable in her struggles to put back her family plantation on track. Romantically speaking, she's exactly what one should avoid though, as she daydreams about a man who's totally unsuitable to her and lets the real good deal go away.

Really enjoyed "American Beauty" when it came out. Have not seen it since, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I also liked "Donnie Darko" for many reasons known and still unknown.

I watched "Tony Rome" from 1968 with Frank Sinatra last night after Scouts, and it was a fun story. Sinatra can play a cool wise-cracking guy when he wants to.

I really love Blake Edwards' films from the early thru mid sixties with Henry Mancini scores. What a team from back then. The granularity of the color. The fashion sense and style of the characters. All United Artists releases as well.

I enjoy Alfred Hitchcock films as well. Especially "Vertigo" 1958 and "The Birds" 1963. His sweeping California dreamscapes and camera-style captures so many unspoken moments. It just embodies a time I wish I was a part of first hand.

Nobody's mentioned The Lord of the Rings yet. In the middle of watching them again and they are fantastic. as are Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the Matrix (yes, all three of them), Serenity, Nolanverse Batman, Leon, Clerks...bloody hell, there's a lot of gooduns out there.

As for some of those already mentioned, I agree with AV, I hated GWTW. The only thing worth watching was that one line which he should have said as soon as he met her. I like very few Spielberg films except Duel (an excellent example of a film which required a good director and Spielberg delivered) and Jurassic Park (mainly due to the story, there were a couple of good directorial moments, the cup of water, the T-Rex chase, the Kitchen Scene etc.)

Clerks! What a fun movie, have not seen that in forever! Never saw any of the "Lord of the Rings" movies, read the books in middle school and if I see the movies I am afraid it will tarnish the awesome memories I had reading them.

Saw the recent remake of "True Grit" with Jeff Bridges (The Dude!) and I really liked it. Loved how they got the language of the period, of how Americans spoke back then spot-on! Well done!

No, watch them. If anything, they enhance the experience. Like Shawshank, they are one of the few films which are equal to or better than their source material. They were made by a fan and have the level of detail in them that would make Tolkien himself faint.

Too much awesome in this one thread! It's melting my PC.

If you get me talking about films, or retro games, or music, you could get me going for hours on end, so I'll try to reign myself in.

There's some great picks here. I agree with many of you. Love your list, Alpha Virgin!

For the record, the LOTR movies are great. The best way to see them is to set aside several hours every night and have a big Extended Edition marathon  The EEs are my favourite versions. They add so many new character moments, humorous interludes, and they flesh out the story and the universe more thoroughly.

I love my old school Hollywood, and the greatest tribute to the old adventure movies of all time is Raiders of the Lost Ark. It feels like an old movie.

I love the Matrix (yes, all of them). The first is the best, but the sequels also had some great ideas (the execution may have been a little off, but I applaud them for making non-typical action movie sequels, which had real thematic substance to them) .

Love the Alien series (the first is my favourite. But I actually quite enjoyed Alien 3, unlike most people)

Loved the new True Grit. The Coens are excellent, and they didn't disappoint me at all with this. The language (and the authentic period detail) was the highlight of the film for me! :coolbeans:

I agree. Whenever a great film comes out, which tries to take the wool off people's eyes (Dark City, The Matrix, V For Vendetta, They Live, etc) it's always misunderstood and condemned by the sheep.
