The dismal weather today seems to have brought all of them out in droves today to this cafe. Guys with beards. Heavy framed glasses, girls with sleeve tattoos, and "santa cruz license plates" (tramp stamps) and a few showing off the edge of their thongs (despite it be friggin cold today).

Bikes, tons parked outside. Mostly expensive. Mostly new, mostly with an "ironic" decal or three on them. All smoking their heads off outside. All have ideas of how to "fix" the world, and dissing corporations (yet they all smoke cigarettes with brand names of Marlboro, American Spirit, Winston). White earphone in ear, ipod / iphone hidden in the pocket the other earphone slung over the shoulder, or dangling about. Griping, whining about college credit costs at the local JC (junior college) yet California still has the cheapest state / public colleges in the nation. Complaining about the teacher who only gave them a "B".......everyone "an artist" all so full of thie own manure, it's a shock to me none are sprouting daisies at this point. All an expert on everything. Pretenious. All trying to identify with the working class by drinking cheap, ironic beer like Pabst-Blue Ribbon......in a can only.

All seem to f*ck each other, all are white, all going to some party later, and think bragging rights is getting third place at the "quiz night" last night at the Basque restaurant / bar. All tend to have these awesome, uniques gifts and skills yet all of them live off their mom and dad......a good chunk of them pushing thirty too.

Hipster girls laughing at the non-hipster girls. Every hipster guy looking at each hipster girl as a potential conquest. Laughing at stuff you can BET isn't funny. All talking nonstop about how if "Rick Santorum wins the nomination, chattel slavery is somehow gonna be legal again." Whining crocodile tears over crack-whores but trashing the people who live in trailers parks (they DESERVE to live there). Every solution is a government one. Volunteering is only for political causes (ie liberal only) people who don't think like them are "stupid" and somehow racism is always thrown into the mix.

It's gotta be tough to be a hipster. So much to stand for, and be up "against"

sometimes in starbucks theres some english lit students who appear and talk about "philosophy"
I wonder when intellect became a matter of vague, small minded, logically inconsistent, emotionally driven, poorly phrased ramblings as an act of self-delusion.
exxie would love them.

I've never met a hipster who actually stood for anything. The hipsters I'm familiar with just longboard, drink coffee, listen to "obscure" dubstep, wear beanies the whole year through, and shop at urban outfitters. Which, ironically, is more expensive than any store I shop at.

The one's who are still holding strong to the 99% movement get a little respect from me. I find something redeeming about hippies who actually do something, or I guess don't do anything. Hipsters just stand around and bitch about everything.

I liked that hats were making a comeback, it's a shame they took that and made it their own. Wear a fedora now and you're a pretentious dickbag... Or yahtzee...

As much as I dislike their armchair opinions, it's nice to see people taking an interest in the world even if it is pretentious. A hipster is the highest form of social scum. Best of the worst. Everything they do might just be because it goes against the norm, but at least they take an interest in current events... As opposed to my least favorite individual. The group which has no name yet but is the love-child of hiphop and skater, mixed in with a little bit of rave.

They say they are different then everyone else. They are against fads. The whole hipster movement and emo movements are all fads themselves.

Eventually people will be getting robot chips in them. Roboters.

Hipster-philosophers don't care about your intellect because they're having sex with women.

I myself was a part of both worlds, though probably overall slightly more immersed in the liberal arts areas as opposed to the sciences...it's a close call. I could not but help wondering at times as I sat in the upper-level literature courses and listened (and myself participated) to the conversations we had in class. What use are these??? Unlike, for instance, the electronics laboratory where I learned about how to hook up a sound system, op amps and inverters, I listened to, as you dub it "philosophy" and other wildlly abstract ideas. I can conclude that the discussion of such certainly stimulates thinking and a deeper appreciation of life and its subtleties, but advances them nowhere. As you put it, they are little better than emotionally driven ramblings at times.

I have nothing against philosophy, just their attempts at it.
