Spoiler: show
black stuff had sex with a girl, who gave birth to a squid, who had sex with a large humanoid thing, which gave birth to the alien, is what I took away.

Yeah, not a thing about the DNA makes any sense at all. Not the S-J on Earth, nor the transformation from an "eel"-like creature to the "alien" xenomorph species on "LV-223".

I saw it this weekend. I was entertained but I don't think it was as good as Alien or Aliens. Things that annoyed me:

Spoiler: show
The depictions of DNA (the actual molecules) in the movie. And the process of seeing if human and Engineer DNA matched. And why didn't Charlize just run sideways to keep from getting smooshed by the giant donut?

LOL!!

Yeah, it had more holes in it then a slice of Swiss cheese, after the mice got done.

Ridley Scott's brain must be full of holes too, for directing this piece of sci-fi trash.

Then again how do all these "creatures" become so huge so quickly, with no intake of food?

Even the Xenomorph in ALIEN became huge in a matter of hours/day, so its not a perfect film either,
but Prometheus was a huge let-down in all manner of ways that make no sense at all, considering.

it was an entertaining movie, If they hadn't made a few poor choices with the plot and some of the characters, it would have been able to stand side by side with alien.

along with the creature designs, the character david was the best part of the film by far.

I agree about the "David" android's act being cool.

Charlize Theron was only there for eye-candy.

She really didn't do much acting in the film at all.

I enjoyed it a lot.

If you take it as a Ridley Scott film first and foremost, and not so much an Alien film, and view it on its own merits, you enjoy it a lot more. I want to go see it again. I think it will build in cult status over time. I think it was the best one since Aliens, and the best Scott film since Blade Runner ( which this also bears some similarities with)

Wow, I actually get to use the spoiler tabs for their intended use  Anyway, the only thing I have against the film, and I mean ONLY, is the ending. The whole idea for the film came about by Ridley Scott's desire to find out what happened to the Space Jockey. And we do find out. Yes, it is brilliant and not what I was expecting, but that's not my point. This stemmed from an image in Alien with the Space Jockey at its control room, dead after a xenomorph had clearly burst out its chest. Yes, the Space Jockey dies, and yes, a xenomorph bursts out if its chest leaving the Space Jockey dead on the floor of THE PROMETHEUS ESCAPE POD!!!!!! This fantastic image from HR Giger simply does not exist in the film leaving a fairly major continuity error and destroying the entire premise on which the film was made. Why?

Spoiler: show
It's not the same planet as the one in Alien. That was LV-426, this was LV-233. If we get any sequels to Prometheus, they will surely fill in the continuity holes, with Alien

I thought it was very good, far better than ALIEN 3, and ALIEN RESSURECTION, and WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than the AVP movies.

BUT....

Not as good as ALIEN.

Nothing ever will be - except ALIENS.

Yeah, I enjoyed this one a lot. It was better than any of the films since Aliens. I wouldn't expect any less from Ridley Scott, master of sci fi! :D There was as much of 2001 and Blade Runner in this as there was Alien, IMO.

It was a nice return to the body horror themes of Alien. I want to go see it again to take it all in.

Exactly. I was expecting to see the ending with the S-J in his spacecraft chair with his guts blown out by the face-huggers Xenomorph.

Spoiler: show
The planetary system looked exactly like the one in Alien, with the ringed large planet and the smaller moon or planetoid. I watched Alien again to confirm it, in fact.

Blade Runner was ahead of its time, that's true and I enjoyed it a lot. But I am also a fan of Alien Resurrection. I liked
seeing Ripley kick some ass again with a head of hair, unlike Alien 3 which was a disgusting film, to say the least.
