Intellectual property rights should be limited to about one decade from the creation of the protected work. That would solve virtually all the problems currently caused by them.

Ten years might as well be a century at the rapid scale that Internet tech advances.

Just like I believe that small businesses should be allowed to thrive despite being strongly left-wing, I also believe that creators of intellectual property should receive adequate compensation for their effort - but not orders of magnitude more than that, as can be the case right now.

That's because being strongly left-wing you believe in a powerful state....

I believe in the absolute minimal state possible that can still protect my freedoms.

It wouldn't surprise me if a pharma company discovered a new, cost-effective cure for cancer, patented it, but then decided to keep it under wraps, because they could make a far greater profit selling cancer drugs that are less effective and more expensive.

Same with oil companies. They can discover and patent alternative energy devices, but never produce them or release them to the public because they can generate a greater profit selling us oil.

I'm also disgusted by the fact that the human genome and the genome from other plants/animals can also be patented. Isn't that the most absurd thing you've ever heard. How can companies literally patent our genetics?

It's total bullshit, HR. At least by overreaching the way they have with the recent relentless string of horrible laws they've attempted to ram down our throats like SOPA, ACTA and CISPA, the general public is awakening to how bad it is and hopefully that momentum can be leveraged to roll back some of the current abuses.

I agree the inventors should be compensated.
But I DO NOT agree with exclusive patents.

If other companies or other entities wish to use your invention then they should be allowed to do so, provided they pay the inventor some kind of user fee or a certain percentage of the profit they generated from the use of the inventor's creation.

No exclusive patents.

EDIT: ALL patents should be made easily available to the public.
Any company, individual, or entity should be able to use any patented intellectual property they wish.
In return for using such property, a fee or portion of profit generated from using such property should be paid to the inventor.
This payment should have a set time frame (something like 10 years or until inventor dies).
No one should be refused the use of patented property, as long as they pay the fee or portion of profits to the inventor, then they should have every right to use it.

Remove the state and corporations fill the void. It doesn't work.

For this to work, corporate law has to be overturned (i.e. corporations can no longer be declared "individuals" with rights).

I also think Wallstreet and stock trading should be rid of. I have to admit I am kind of ignorant about stock trading and how it works, but the whole system just seems like a more complicated version of gambling.

Ain't that the truth?? :check:

Still working on my flux-capacitor powered DeLorean time-machine.

I figure if I can't leave this shit-hole planet in a star-ship to ANYWHERE ELSE, at least I can possibly travel in time to a
better era, because this one is making me violently ill, mentally and emotionally. :check:

Doubtful.

John and Jane Doe are up to their necks in debt; decent pay and jobs are gone to China.

Anyone want a new American revolution?

I am game and have been for many years, at the cost of my life. :check:
