Brian G. Gilmartin (1940-) is a sociologist and professor at Montana State University - Northern. He performed several social experiments in the 1970s and 1980s from which he developed his love-shyness theory. In 1987, he authored Shyness and Love: Causes, Consequences, and Treatment detailing the disorder and outlining solutions.
